also provide Website Optimization. Let's say all of your graphics on 1 page totals a consolidated graphic size of 200Kb. On a 56k modem, this could take 60 seconds or longer to download (depending on modem speed and connection). If you've ever researched anything on the web regarding increasing hits to your site, you'll soon discover most visitors move on if they don't see the content loaded within 10-15 seconds (impatient, aren't they?). What this service does is take every single image on your site and attempt to optimize them...this means comparing various options to reduce file size such as whether to use jpeg format: then comparing compression factor, loading styles such as progressive, web safe palates, etc., or use gif format: then compare using 2-256 colors, dithering, etc. Other means to optimize can be simply reducing the physical size (i.e. reduce from 4" x 5" to 3" x 4") or cropping the image (cutting off unnecessary edges & thus keeping main content intact and maintaining the original size). All of this is done while attempting to maintain as close as possible the original picture quality. More often than not, the quality is actually enhanced in the process. The entire process for your site would take approximately 2-3 hours to optimize, including modifying HTML code if the file type/size is changed and uploading the new images/html pages. Sizes vary, but potentially a site could be reduced anywhere from 10% to 75%. An 800Kb site could end up totaling as little as 100Kb. This would cut back the download time significantly. This would be most noticeable on older PC's, PC's with slower modems, and poor Internet connections (bad lines/heavy area usage/slow speeds), but all scenarios would benefit. |
